The socio-technical gap refers to the gap between real-life social interactions and the activities that are actually supported by technology. This work presents 50 papers from the 2010 international conference of the IFIP Working Group 8.3, shedding light on recent efforts to bridge the socio-technical gap and overcome technical limitations in the field of decision support. Major themes include design of decision support systems, Web 2.0 systems in decision support, business intelligence and data warehousing, and decision support in policy making, emergency scenarios, commerce, and production planning. Some specific topics considered include using action research in decision support with VIP software, case- and model-based hybrid reasoning for group decision making, inter-organizational decision support systems for supply chain planning, and the role of domain ontology for medical emergency management in mass gatherings.
