The workshop which gave rise to the papers in this collection was convened to share research on the rising incidence of traumatic brain injury in people around the world who have taken part in combat or peace-keeping operations. The findings show that in addition to visible wounds such as physical disabilities, there may also be invisible wounds such as suicidal tendencies, depression, stress, and chronic pain. The themes discussed are characterizing traumatic brain injury, diagnostic and assessment issues, treatment, and quality of life. The topics include war head injuries in besieged Sarajevo, predictors of persistent post-concussive syndrome, molecular mechanisms in traumatic brain injury, case reports of using biofeedback and neurofeedback treatments of psychiatric disturbances following traumatic brain injury, and a 12-month outcome from mild traumatic brain injury.
