Negotiation practitioner and expert Gerzon finds that opportunities for mediation abound in business, education and government largely because those in charge simply are not listening to stakeholders, cohorts, clients, and each other. They certainly are not doing enough of what he calls "third-side" or transformational leadership, in which those involved seek a solution that results in a positive outcome for all. Gerzon examines certain styles of leadership and proposes instead that leaders act as mediators, incorporating integral vision, systems thinking, presence, inquiry, conscious conversation, dialogue, bridging and innovation.
