Sloane (1905-1985) painted nearly every day for about 50 years--primarily American landscapes in rural New England and New Mexico. He was also an avid collector of tools, farm implements, architectural components (weathervanes, doors) and a prolific writer. In this book his wife offers a brief personal introduction to the man, while Wigley, an art writer and dealer who handled Sloane's estate, offers an essay, an interview, and captions for Sloane's paintings, close to 100 of which are presented here and constitute the heart of the book.
