This text employs many practical examples, as well as visuals such as drawings, sketches, and graphs, to teach basic concepts and applications of heat transfer. Problem-solving skills are emphasized, and demonstrated with real-world examples showing how the derived equations are used to model physical problems. The book's confidence-building problems are relatively simple and, to some extent, follow the examples. Coverage progresses from fundamental concepts through radiation heat transfer. While previous editions of the text contained derivations of the Navier-Stokes equations in three coordinate systems, derivations of the boundary layer equations, and integral methods of solution, this edition, according to the author, "has been modified to make it better suited for an emerging place in the mechanical engineering curriculum."
