Perceiving an unbalanced liberal-democratic, particularly Anglo-American, domination of the security and intelligence literature and believing in the need for a describing and analyzing a wider range and variety of national intelligence systems, Farson (politics, Simon Fraser U., Canada), Gill (politics and security, Liverpool John Moores U., UK), Phythian (politics, U. of Leicester, UK), and Shpiro (Begin-Sadat Center for Strategic Studies, Israel) have asked contributors from around the world to contribute analysis of their national systems of intelligence. Contributors were asked to describe the current strategic environment of their country and its perception of threats, the impact of any significant regime changes on intelligence, current intelligence structures and their control, issues of review and oversight, the impact of the "global war on terror," and the extent to which a national culture of intelligence exists. The first volume covers Canada, the United States, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Australia, New Zealand, India, Pakistan, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, and Vietnam and the second volume covers Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Greece, Russia, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Palestine, and South Africa.
