This text incorporates advances in wetlands technology, design and analytic tools since the 1996 edition by Kadlec and Knight. Kadlec (a retired academic with a wetland management consulting firm) and Wallace (a consulting engineer who holds several patents on wastewater treatment systems) present recent performance data on some 950 treatment wetlands worldwide. They examine the influence of internal mechanisms on performance, and cover the science, hydrology, hydraulics, reactor theory, applied design, cost, and operations and management of treatment wetland systems. The text includes summary lists of the types of wetland systems, information on wetland tracer testing and flow-pattern modeling, and illustrations.
