Walter is a normal giraffe with a long neck that finishes in a head that towers up in the air, but he still isn't quite content.Walter's friend Sonny is a big-hearted turtle, who is both brave and true. <BR><BR>In <I>Flying High </I>Walter builds a plane to realize his dream of flying and discovering the world. In the process he gets carried away with his own importance and hurts Sonny's feelings. He also succeeds in getting off the ground, but comes crashing down when a storm hits. When Sonny comes to the rescue, Walter realizes the error of his ways, and the next day they take off together in a plane built for two.<BR><BR><I>Flying High </I>is a book that boys will love because of the diagramming of plane parts and the manifest enjoyment of mechanisms on Walter's part. But its sheer high spirits, funny animals and theme of friendship will appeal to all children, many of whom will immediately identify with Walter's sense of adventure as well as Sonny's big heart and desire to be appreciated and included. <BR><BR>Jørgen Stamp's wonderful illustrations are clear and strong, full of humor and feeling. The sweetness of his pictures gives them an old-fashioned feel, while his use of panels, diagrams and graphic elements make them appealingly contemporary.</DIV></DIV>
