Taking an accessible approach, this text provides one chapter for each of the 30 class periods of a semester-long introductory course focusing on graphics, modeling, and mathematical methods. Rather than starting with the typical line-drawing algorithms found in many standard texts, the text begins by introducing fractals using turtle graphics and LOGO, with material sufficient to cover the first four weeks of a semester course. This is followed by coverage of two-dimensional computer graphics, mathematical methods for three-dimensional computer graphics, realistic rendering in three-dimensional computer graphics, and geometric modeling. Avoiding descriptions of current graphics hardware and special programming languages, the text presents graphics algorithms based on well-established physical models of light and cogent mathematical methods. There are no programming examples, since the transitory nature of graphics languages would soon render such material outdated. B&w and color illustrations are included.
