Although this book is edited by Hoag (agricultural and resource economics, Colorado State U.) he also participates in the writing of most of the chapters. This makes it less a collection of separate articles than a cohesive outline of how to go about risk management in agriculture. The heart of the book covers each of the ten steps involved in making use of a strategic planning framework in building a risk management plan and begins with an example of its application to a real farm. Six later chapters explore advanced and customized risk management programming and the book is supported by the Risk Navigator SRM Web site. Appropriate for both farmers and students focused on the business side of agriculture, it contains a detailed breakdown of the contents for each chapter and a well-constructed index.
