Kennedy (geography, U. of Kentucky) has been involved with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) since the 1970s, and wrote some of the earliest general references and textbooks on it. Here he updates his textbook on using the Global Positioning System (GPS) as data input to a particular proprietary GIS software package, ArcGIS. This third edition differs from the 1996 and 2002 ones by being applicable to an array of receivers and software, specifically the Trimble Juno series and Magellan MobileMapper. The material is designed for a short, intermediate, or full-term course for students that have at least a passing familiarity with ArcGIS and with the most basic geographical concepts such as latitude and longitude.
