In the past twenty years, nanoscience has passed from the realm of science fiction to established fact. This textbook introduces nanoscience to majors in physics, biology and chemistry. The authors, Hornyak (editor, Perspectives in Nanotechnology) Dutta (microelectronics, Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok) Tibbals (University of Texas Medical Center) and Rao (biology, Metropolitan State college of Denver) have experience in many areas of the field. The book begins with a definition and history of nanoscience and a chapter on the ongoing debates about the ethics of nanotechnology, especially in medical and agricultural contexts. They then proceed to characterization and fabrication methods. The last sections are devoted to the specific uses of nanoscience in physics, chemistry and biology. Each chapter ends with a bibliography and problems for the student. There is also an on-line service with more information and exercises. The book is arranged clearly and illustrated profusely with color photographs, graphs and diagrams.
