Komike Huaolelo (Hawaiian Lexicon Committee) was established in 1987 to create Hawaiian words for modern concepts and material culture. This dictionary adds to the Committee's 1998 edition some 1,000 new words that are essential to the growth of the Hawaiian language. After a description of how words are created by the Committee, written in both Hawaiian and English, the first section of the dictionary contains some 6,000 Hawaiian entries alphabetized according to the Hawaiian alphabet and their English equivalents; the second section contains English entries and Hawaiian translations. The dictionary is useful for teachers and students in Hawaiian language immersion schools, and in high school, college, and continuing education language courses.
