In this reissue of the 1939 Harper edition, an American scholar heralds Heard (1889-1971) a British polymath who influenced such notables as Aldous Huxley. Huxley is quoted as saying that his friend's book: "...represents a significant attempt to reinterpret in contemporary terms...the teachings...of the traditional religious philosophies..." Heard's secretary provides background on Eastern influences on his mystical philosophy. Heard discusses sexual energy as driving evolution of the mind and techniques for expanding consciousness.
