Three scholars from Gallaudet U. in Washington D.C. discuss the results of their research into the experiences of young deaf and hard of hearing children and their parents. Based upon a nationwide survey of parents with six- to seven-year-old children, as well as 80 in-depth interviews, the text describes the goals and expectations of the parents, their children's achievements and troubles, and their satisfaction or disappointment with health and educational systems.
