Popular prose fiction in Antiquity has long been traced to folklore elements, and Anderson (classics, U. of Kent) seeks to expand that link to the more self-consciously literary works by named authors, where the connection is not widely recognized. Among his perspectives are Petronius and other satyr tales, Longus and the Cinderella cycle, some royal riddles and prophecy tales, Sleeping Beauty and Our Lady's Child, aspects of the ancient novella, and some tall tales in Lucian.
