Contrary to a commonly held perception, female fans and writers played an important role in the development of pulp science fiction from the birth of the genre. In this study, Davin explores the distinctively utopian and empathetic style of science fiction produced by women writers between 1926 and 1965. He also provides a complete bibliography of every story published by women in science fiction magazines during that period as well as brief biographies of more than 100 authors.
