Shirley Geok-lin Lim was born in Malacca, Malaysia. Her Crossing the Peninsula won the Commonwealth Poetry Prize; she has published five more volumes of poetry, including What the Fortune Teller Didn't Say (West End Press, 1998), three short story collections, two novels and a prize-winning memoir, Among the White Moon Faces. She is professor of English at the University of California, Santa Barbara.<BR><BR>Walking Backwards is about making a home when you are a nomad and adding an American self to the many selves that the world's bewildering places throw at one body.
