The Transition Manual bridges the gap between the 1985 EMT-Intermediate National Standard Curriculum and the 2009 National EMS Education Standards. Each of the 22 chapter begins with an overview box. Early chapters cover preparatory issues--medical, legal, and ethical. Two chapters address pharmacology and medication administration. The following two deal with airway management, oxygenation, and shock and resuscitation. The next nine treat emergencies in various systems: respiratory, cardiovascular, neurological, GI and urologic, endocrine and hematologic, infectious diseases, immunologic and toxicologic, psychiatric, and gynecologic. There is a chapter on trauma, and special patient populations, as well as EMS operations. The final chapter covers medical terminology. The book is an invaluable resource for states that are transitioning practicing EMT-Intermediates to the Advanced EMT level. There are appendixes A and B: Drugs used at the AEMT level, and mathematical principles used in pharmacology. There is also a glossary, and tables and figures.
