Freedman, an educational consultant involved in reviews, strategic planning, and system improvement in Canada, and Di Cecco, a consultant who manages complex policy and program reform in government in Canada, show teachers how to design and implement a school evaluation process conducted by personnel from within the district in collaboration with the school leadership team. Their model incorporates the use of data-driven evidence with a focus on the connection between teaching strategies and student achievement data, and the outcomes of increased coherence and less variability across classrooms and schools, positive accountability, and targeted capacity building linked to student achievement. The school selects the areas of focus and has control over the design and planning of reviews by collaborating with the district. They emphasize change management strategies, collaborative relationships among staff, and a work plan for moving forward. They introduce their framework, then discuss design, planning at the school and district levels, the day of the review, and results analysis, feedback, and action planning through monitoring.
