The series presents literary, historical, philosophical, and scientific works of the Italian Renaissance written in Latin with facing pages of English translation. In a philosophical dialogue from about 1440, Filelfo (1398-1481) considers a prominent group of Florentine noblemen and humanists driven from the city by Cosimo de'Medici. He discusses the sufferings imposed by exile such as poverty and loss of reputation, and the best way to endure and even profit from them. Keyser (U. of Leuven) provides the first complete Latin edition, and Blanchard (English, Misericordia U.) the first complete translation into any modern language.
