Parkinson, curator and director of the World War History & Art Museum (WWHAM) who researched and developed nuclear submarines during the Cold War, brings together about 230 paintings, drawings, sculptures, and trench art by Austrian, American, Australian, Belgian, British, Canadian, French, German, and Russian soldiers who fought in World War I, with emphasis on the Western Front. The art illustrates major battles, the war at sea, hospitals and prison camps, raids and dogfights, and convoys and railroads. It is from the Brushes With War collection at the WWHAM, and most was produced during the war, with some done after and some by civilian artists.
