New York City-style graffiti writing first came to Europe in the 1980s during the spread of 80s rock culture across the world. London, Paris, and Amsterdam were the first to catch flame, and quickly, the rest of Europe was ablaze. During the 1990s, graffiti writers took to European trains, as they traveled from one city to the next via Inter-rail.
