Human response to art is often based on a subconscious sense of symmetry and order, which is either confirmed or shattered in the work. In this textbook, Kalajdzievski (mathematics, University of Manitoba) shows how mathematics is demonstrated in art. He moves from Euclidian geometry through panes, fractals and perspective. The formulae are given along with exercises for the student. Works of art from classical times to the present are pictured as examples and an accompanying DVD includes the color plates from the book as well as animated demonstrations of math in art.
