Brenda Boyd first learned about Asperger's Syndrome when her nine-year-old son was diagnosed with it. She wrote a book on raising a child with Asperger's. Then, a few years later, she was also diagnosed with the syndrome. In this book, she charts her eventual acceptance and appreciation for the condition. She points out that this form of autism is often associated with giftedness in many areas. One reason for this is that people with Asperger's tend to focus more closely on and obsesses about things they are interested in. The downside is that they have problems with interpersonal relations, not knowing appropriate responses in social situations. Here Boyd provides exercises and advice for those with Asperger's to see the positive in their condition and to find coping methods for living in a world that doesn't understand the reason behind their social gaffes.
