Drawing on 30 years of experience in vocational services for persons with developmental disabilities, Wiegan discusses the value of meaningful employment for both the person with developmental disability and for society as a whole, and offers a step-by-step system for developing a successful jobs program for persons with developmental disabilities, based on a business model rather than the traditional social services model. The system involves gaining insight into the client, analyzing market opportunities, matching the client to a job, and supporting the client after placement. A few sample forms are included. The audience for the book includes for-profit and non-profit rehabilitation service organizations, private job development businesses, government funding agencies, special education job placement programs, transition specialists, and families of people with developmental disabilities.
