Readers are assumed to have some fluency in calculus, linear algebra, and engineering mathematics; to be able use the engineering approach to solving problems; and to have some experience using mathematical models to predict the response of elements, devices, and systems. Changes for the third edition are many and significant, including a new chapter--Biological systems: Transport of Heat, Mass, and Electric Charge--to replace the one on machine design. Other discussions have been enhanced and many more exercises, examples, and MATLAB functions added.
