Drawing on IDEA'S Response to Intervention (RtI) model, Rasinski (literacy education, Kent State University) offers a framework of generalized strategies for teaching struggling K-12 readers. The instructional strategies and activities described are arranged around general areas of focus, such as phonemic awareness, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. The strategies can be generalized to many situations and modified for different teaching and learning contexts. Additional chapters describe topics such as curriculum development, assessment, and working with parents.
