Ware (music and bands, Jackson State U.) presents interviews with 16 African-American band directors from historically black colleges and universities who discuss their experiences; organizational skills; interactions with colleagues and students; teaching, conducting, and recruitment methods and approaches; influences; program development; and the profession. The directors have a range of experience. Each interview is organized by philosophy, pedagogy, and methodology.
