Though studies show that criminal, antisocial parents tend to have deviant children, controversy still exists over whether the construct of psychopathy can be validly applied to youth. Following an overview of the development of the field, psychologists Salekin (Disruptive Behavior Clinic, U. of Alabama) and Lynam (Purdue U.) introduce 16 chapters in which international experts review the current knowledge base. They examine conceptual models; the relationship between psychopathy, personality and environmental influences, and other psychiatric disorders; the strengths and limitations of specific assessment instruments; and treatment and forensic issues.
