Garland (theatre arts, State U. of New York at Geneseo) analyzes the works of contemporary American Latina theatre artists Cherríe Moraga, Carmelita Tropicana, Coco Fusco, and Não Bustamente for their contributions to ideas about race and theatrical representation. She considers their representations of race and gender as performative and examines their portrayal of concepts of identifying vs. not identifying with minority and dominant cultures. She discusses specific plays and performances and how they show how performance influences identity processes and how these processes contribute to the artists' sense of self.
