Berman (art history, Wellesley College, Mass.) has written an accessible history of 19th-century Danish painting, with attention to the lives and education of its painters in this beautifully illustrated volume. Published in an oversized format (10.25x12.25"), the volume is filled with color plates, many of them full-page, of paintings from several collections, with that of the major collector John Loeb, Jr. especially well represented.
