This scientific analysis of video gaming draws on clinical psychology and motivational theory to examine the benefits and dangers of game play and presents research based suggestions for developing better, more fulfilling games. The work begins with an overview of the current state of games and gaming and examines several areas of psychological development effected by gaming including feelings of competence, autonomy and relatedness as well as the addictive nature of gaming and the exposure of players to violence and aggression.
