In this text for future and practicing educators, Gresson (education and human development, Pennsylvania State U.) discusses major perspectives, policy, and pedagogy regarding the relationship of race and education, and many subtopics thereof. The six chapters--addressing topics including: origins, beliefs, and themes in race and education; minorities and the "education gap," and race and education in global perspective--progressively expounds on definitions of terms in the history, theory, and practice related to the topic at hand, including a glossary at the end of each that restates the terms introduced in each chapter. Other points of discussion include cultural competence, bilingual education, nativism, collectivism, Afrocentric education, and culturally relevant pedagogy.
