Presenting 15 case studies, Kataoka describes geographic information system (GIS) technology for use in homeland security in gathering and analyzing intelligence; protecting critical infrastructure; responding to forest fires, hurricanes, and other catastrophes; planning for bioterrorism or disease outbreaks; and securing complex events. Case studies consider use at the Olympic Games, the Super Bowl, the Arizona Counter Terrorism Information Center, and with Hurricane Katrina, for example.
