French Marxist philosopher Lefebvre (1901-1991) wrote this work explaining his view of dialectical materialism just before World War II as an implicit rejoinder to Joseph Stalin's Dialectical and Historical Materialism. It contains three major lines of argument: an exposition of Hegel's dialectical treatment of logic, a discussion of the relationship between Hegel and Marx, and a fashioning of a materialist formulation of humanism closely related to Marx's own views in the 1844 manuscripts.
