CUNY's Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies annual lecture series, developed by Kessler, a gay psychiatrist, features outstanding contributors to this field (now expanded to include transgender and queer studies). This volume collects, for the first time, the CLAG lectures from 1992-2001. Joan Nestle, founder of the Lesbian Herstory Archives, was the debut speaker. In 2001, Judith Butler (U. of California, Berkeley) addressed "Global violence, sexual politics." The foreword explains the barriers the series overcame.
