This book relates the findings of a two-year project conducted at the University of Australia Landscape Architecture program. The project developed different scenarios for the future of urban growth in Perth. The city in southwestern Australia is expected to double its current population of 1.5 million by 2050, and as author Weller notes, "What was built in 179 years will need to be reproduced in 40." While focused on Perth, the results of the project can be applied to all cities facing the pressures of population growth and climate change. The emphasis here is on transforming, rather than rebuilding, cities to address those pressures. The book is lavishly photographed and also includes graphs and other illustrations.
