Through a discussion of representative bands and songs, this work explores how the American counterculture of the 1960s and 70s confronted war, oppression, capitalism, and other issues through music. Aimed at the lay reader and (rather surprisingly) containing no direct quotes from songs, the text is not particularly heavy on analysis and is probably best used as a general introductory roadmap to the protest music of the era and its relationship to the roiling social movements of the time.
