The concept of "postcolonial green" indicates the merging of postcolonial studies with ecocriticism and environmental justice. This collection offers examples of how postcolonial green reads a variety of literary texts from around the world. The editors (professors of English at West Texas A&M U.) present 13 papers discussing such topics as the "environmental unconscious" in Arundhati Roy's God of Small Things; comparative colonial and postcolonial perspectives on Sri Lanka's environment; J.M. Coetzee's Waiting for the Barbarians as a condemnation of the social and ecological brutality of colonialism; agriculture, colonialism, and foodways in the writings of Bessie Head; and the epic poetry of Pablo Neruda and Ernesto Cardena as critique of the ways in which environmental exploitation and colonization are interconnected.
