Scientists working with humans and animals examine the current research on vascular dementia in order to address the many recent developments in cardiovascular and cerebrovascular medicine and the impact of these on the lives of older adults. About a third of the text is devoted to the ongoing debate concerning interactions between vascular dementia and Alzheimer's disease. Other sections cover general aspects; basic mechanisms; the impact on cognitive, psychiatric, and daily living; neuroimaging; and clinical management.
