Most of the 16 papers are from the August 2006 International Council of Archaeozoology in Mexico City. Archaeologists from the US, Europe, and Asia explore some of the diverse relationships between humans and animals in realms of fishing, hunting, and foraging; food preparation and consumption; and husbandry and herding. They also include introductory and methodological studies. Among specific topics are past and present strategies for the draught exploitation of cattle, the ethnography of fishing in Scotland and its contribution to icthyoarchaeological analysis in this region, the ethnozooarchaeology of butchering practices in Sudan's Maha Region, and social principles of Andean camelid pastoralism and archaeological interpretations.
