Curley (humanities, New Jersey Institute of Technology, Newark) presents a critical analysis of historical and contemporary Northern Irish poetry through the complex lens of the sectarian conflicts from which it was born. Beginning with an introduction examining the tropes, themes and myths of Northern Irish literature and its cultural framing, the text examines works by John Hewitt, Louis MacNeice, Seamus Heaney and Ciaran Carson, reflecting on the effects of the political and cultural landscape of the north on these poets often known for their more generally "Irish" roots.
