Cognitive analytic therapy (CAT) was initially developed in Great Britain's National Health Service (NHS) as a way of working with people that were hard to help. It has since added a dialogic model and incorporated the concept of the Zone of Proximal Development. This work further expands its application to work with clients with intellectual disabilities such as autism, or other difficult factors, including personality disorder, past offending behavior, and a history of domestic abuse. All of the examples come from cases in the United Kingdom. Contributions are grouped into the following three parts: Overview of Cognitive Analytic Therapy and People with Intellectual Disabilities, Using Cognitive Analytic Therapy in the Community, and Using Cognitive Analytic Therapy in Forensics The volume closes with a seven page glossary, along with 13 appendixes providing things like sample psychotherapy files, questionnaires, sequential diagrammatic reformulations, and reformulation and goodbye letters.
