In one of several volumes documenting the International Council of Archaeozoology (ICAZ), archaeologists look at objects made from bone. The 20 peer-reviewed papers were developed from both oral and poster papers at the session. Choyke herself presents the keynote paper on raw material choice for worked osseous objects in Central Europe and beyond. Other sections cover raw material selection and curation within tool types, social aspects of raw material selection, and new methods of identifying materials. Among the topics are wear patterns on historic and contemporary tools as a standard for identifying raw materials worked in the Late Upper Palaeolithic, camelid bones from the Southern Calchaquíes Valleys in northwestern Argentina during the Formative Period, variability and choice in producing palaeolithic portable art made in antler and bone, an experimental study of worked bone astragali from two Middle Bronze Age Hungarian sites, and exotic materials used in the construction of Iron Age sword handles from South Cave in Britain.
