The text relates the career path of Adalbert Schnee, German U-boat commander during the Second World War. The text includes a great many photographs, many featuring Schnee and his men on the job. It is divided into four basic sections: Adalbert Schnee Becomes a U-boat Officer, 1934-1939, Commander of Coastal U-boats, Commissioning and Patrols in U-201, and War's End. The third section recounts Schnee's seven patrols in his U-201. There is no contemplation of the morality of war here, just the story of an exceptionally good commander.
