The work in question first appeared in 1748 242 years ago! and still sparkles, with the revealing freshness that (say) the musical imagination of Mozart still sparkles. Euler's twenty-two chapters and six appendices treat the theory and classification of curves and surfaces. Of special contemporary interest are his remarks concerning elliptic curves.
