Separate unit editors were elected for treatments of neural signaling, sensation and sensory processing, movement and its central control, brain development and change, and complex brain functions. The fourth edition contains substantial revisions of chapters on the somatic sensory system, the visual systems, the chemical senses, upper motor neural control, the basal ganglia, and sex and sexuality, as well as brand new chapters on synaptic plasticity and repair and regeneration in the nervous system. The new edition also features revised and expanded full-color art and annotated atlas plates presenting brain sections from Sylvius 4 (an "interactive atlas and visual glossary of human neuroanatomy"), which is available for free download with purchase of the text.
