McKnight (secondary education, National-Louis U.) and Scruggs (writing and education, The Second City Training Center) bring the improvisational techniques of the Second City comedy school to the classroom. Drawn from the educational programming offered by training centers in Chicago and Toronto, which provides teachers with curriculum development and performance programs to improve student learning, the book contains lessons for different content areas (language arts, math, science, and social studies) in K-8 classrooms written by workshop participants. Lessons are based on improv games, which are also presented separately. The relationship between improvisation and classroom learning is also examined, and assessment tips and how the lessons fit with Canadian educational standards are incorporated.
