This revised update of the 2003 edition incorporates Pope Benedict XVI's reforms in Summorum Pontificum. Catholic priest Fortescue (d. 1923) wrote the first (1917) and second (1919) editions; other scholars oversaw the production of the latest editions of this classic guide to the Roman rite. A new chapter has been added on the music of solemn and sung Mass. Descriptions are given of the rites of pontifical, solemn, and low Mass, Vespers, the liturgical year including Holy Week, the sacraments, Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament, funerals, episcopal visitation, and occasional functions. Illustrations include church layout plans (e.g., for the choir and sanctuary), figures of solemn Mass, and arrangements for blessings on holidays.
